Today, Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the company’s latest invention: the Apple iPhone 4.0.  This new smartphone is sure to blow the socks off the competition with its vast array of improved features.

If you thought the iPhone 3GS display was awesome, you’ll love the 4.0’s display even more.  Steve Jobs claims the 3.5 inch display screen is so sharp that it’s impossible to detect any pixilation.  In fact, the view is virtually indistinguishable from real life thanks to the 960×640 pixel resolution.  That’s better definition than what you’ll find flipping through magazine ads and text.  Measuring in at 10mm think, the iPhone 4.0 is slightly thinner than its predecessor.  Despite its compactness, the 4.0 actually weighs 3 grams more.

Perhaps the most noticeable new external feature of the iPhone 4.0 is its two cameras.  The main camera, located on the back, comes with a 5 megapixel count.  This is the same resolution as the iPhone 3GS, however, the 4.0 camera has greater sensitivity to light.  Consequently, you can take higher quality indoor and night pictures than was possible with previous versions of the iPhone.  Better yet, the LED flash works for both video and photographs.  The second camera is front-facing, making it ideal for video conferencing.

There are several internal features you’ll enjoy on the iPhone 4.0.  Running on Apple’s new iOS 4 software, this smartphone offers many improvements over its predecessors.  For example, the 4.0 allows for multitasking, which means you can run multiple apps at the same time.  Better reception, improved noise cancellation, near perfect gyroscope technology, and an extended battery life are other features to enjoy on the 4.0.

Is the iPad an oversized smartphone or a miniature laptop? Perhaps the answer lies somewhere in between. However, one AT&T policy suggests the company views the iPad along the same lines as iPhones. As many are well aware, AT&T caps 3G data connection at 5 GB per month for netbook, laptop, and USB modem users. Meanwhile, iPhone and iPad users pay half that price yet receive unlimited 3G access. The good news for iPad users is that they can stream unlimited video content without worrying about getting slapped with excessive download fees. Better yet, Netflix has confirmed its new video streaming apps for the iPad and iPhone will work with the AT&T 3G cellular network.

At this point, it’s unclear whether or not iPhone and iPad users’ unlimited 3G access will affect AT&T’s 3G network. The reason it might is twofold. First, 3G iPads don’t go on sale until later this month, meaning that the iPads sold thus far have had zero impact on the 3G network. Second, the Netflix apps for both the iPhone and iPad have still not been released. The impact Netflix will have on the network should be a concern for all AT&T 3G cellular network users, especially now that bandwidth-hungry iPad users have been thrown into the mix.
